July 2004 - February 2005
This was when I got my hands dirty with more media. Only, it was a dying breed: Print.
I sold Classified Advertising for my final six months in Santa Cruz, CA. I was one of the only reps making the department any money. I learned how to work with a Production Department, how to create ad schedules for clients, how to listen to their needs & offer suggestions from marketing standpoint, and many other details of the newspaper industry. Alas, I chose move back to Denver for personal reasons. I hired one, and trained both of my 2 replacements when I left.
Conveniently for me, the CEO owned another company called Boulevards New Media, which was an online network of city guide sites. The portfolio is to die for: Denver.com, SanFrancisco.com, LosAngeles.com, Dallas.com, Houston.com, SanAntonio.com, Seattle.com, StLouis.com, and the rest are listed at www.boulevards.com. The opportunity was to sell a commission-based program to hotels. I would do it, and I would do it well.
